Jamnagar marine national park covers 458 sq km, of which the park covers 163 sq km.  The Jamnagar marine national park is an archipelago of 42 steamy islands beside the northern coast of Jamnagar and the southern coast of Kutch. Marine national park Jamnagar lies in the intertidal zone, between the lowest and highest tide levels, the part that lies under water in high tide, and is uncovered during low tide. Jamnagar marine national park:

This Marine National Park Gujarat is located offshore from the southern coast of the Gulf of Kutch in the Jamnagar, Gujarat. It is about 58 km broad to the seaward (western) side, and 170 km broad to the eastern side. The Marine National Park Gujarat was recognized in 1982 under the provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 for the defense of unprotected marine flora and fauna in the area. This park was confirmed as the first marine national park in India in 1982. Marine National Park and Sanctuary comes under the inter-tidal zone along the Jamnagar coasts and islands in the Gulf of Kachchh.  Set apart with a huge diversity of habitats, its coral reefs and mangroves and the sequence of 42 islands form a unique, though delicate, eco-system, which supports an remarkable marine life and biodiversity. Some of the premium coral reef fringe islands are found at Pirotan, Narala, Ajad and Positara, often a  shocker even to Gujaratis. There are 52 coral species, 42 of them hard and 10 of them soft. Coral is made of millions of colorful little animals called polyps, bound jointly by algae and other plants, in a variety of intriguing shapes and formations. Marine National Park Jamnagar is world famous for the spectacular deposits of coral reefs that are found in the coastal region. Most of the park is made up of the colonies created by these coral reefs. Their limestone formation ability led to the design of several structures that are not only unique but also come in diverse sizes and shapes. Some of coral colonies look like horns while others assume the shape of internal structure of the brain. Apart from the corals, most popular ones that inhabit this land are sponges, urchins, shrimps, and turtles. There are a number of plants that look like animals and animals that look like plants. There are a range of varieties of turtles, shrimp, sponge, eels, sea urchin lurk, fishes and octopuses that generate a luminosity of colors that can be unidentified, unseen and unbelievable to us. Gobies are also there which clean vermin from other fish and fishes who hole so deep that only their eyes can seen. These varieties found in this region.

Marine national park information:

 In the Gulf of Kutch, 42 islands park them self like little gems in the Arabian Sea. Fringed by coral reefs, sandy beaches and mangrove swamps, these islands are a treasure-trove of aquatic species and a heaven for birdwatchers. One can see,  octopus, jelly fish, star fish, colorful corals, exotic marine flowering plants, puffer fish, sea horse, huge green sea turtles, lobsters, dolphins, etc. Out of the 42 islands, the mainly well-liked island is Pirotan. The most excellent time for vacation the Marine national park Jamnagar is from December to  till end of February. You can also take on boats at jetties near Jamnagar for a trip to the Marine national park. The adjacent airport is situated at Jamnagar, at just a distance of 7 km. The nearest railway station are situated at Jamnagar and Rajkot.  The nearest bus stand is situated at Jamnagar. For permission, information about fees and other details of this marine national park, call the Conservator of Forests Office by phone no 0288 2679355 located at Nagnath Gate, Van Sankul, Ganjiwada, Jamnagar. You can take a boat from Bedi port or Nava port in Jamnagar, for which you should arrive an hour before high tide, and schedule a couple of hours travel in each direction. The tide time changes with the moon, so schedules to be planed vary seasonally. For a group of 12 people (Indian nationals) a Basic day trip would cost about Rs. 2100 per person (which includes Permits, Passenger Boat rental, Guide, packed Meals and potable Water - From Bedi port to Bedi port).  Khijadiya : An excellent bird sanctuary situated about 15 kms away from Jamnagar. A Forest Rest House is situated in Theba which is about 8 kms away from Jamnagar. A circuit house having ample number of suits is located in the city itself. Number of Private Hotels and Guest house are located in Jamnagar having excellent facilities.

The Sanctuary extended through out  Junagadh and Amreli districts of Saurashtra. The major centre "Sasan" is situated in Talala taluka of Junagadh district at 60 km far from Junagadh. Gir National Park region covers 258.71 sq. Km and  Sanctuary region covers  1153.42 sq. Km.  Gir forests of Gujarat (India) is the only usual place where Asiatic lion is found. Malabar whistling thrush, orange headed ground thrush, paradise flycatcher, black naped fly catcher, Indian pitta, tawny eagle, Bonelli’s eagle, crested serpent eagle, king vulture, crested hawk eagle, painted storks, pelicans, peafowl etc. are found in Gir Sanctuary. . How to reach here:

Gir National Park is 60 km from Junagadh, the most common base for making a visit, and 360 km from Ahmedabad.  The main centre is at Sasan Gir, and has a forest guest house maintained by the park, just opposite the railway station.  One can travel by rail to Junagadh from Ahmedabad or Rajkot and then take a 65 km road trip on bus or taxi to Sasan Gir. A permit for entering the park is obtained at the Sinh Sadan Orientation Centre, Visit Gujarat Forest Department Website for timing. A 35-40 km driving route through the park is maintained for visitors. Unless traveling with an official and experienced guide, you must not leave your vehicle at any time, for your own safety as well as the well-being of the park and its inhabitants.)  Entry fees, per vehicle with up to 6 occupants, are, for Indians- Rs. 400/- Mon.-Fri., Rs. 500/- Sat.-Sun., and Rs. 600/- for holidays.  Entry for foreigners US$40.
